After a time, root death exceeds replacement.
The plant is able to do this and still reproduce itself, which is it’s natural function in life.
The plant is happy to do this and doesn’t care what the grower wants.

This extra root production enables enhanced uptake of nutrients over and above that which would happen normally.
The result is heavier yields through swelling (tumescence) of all flower parts.
